Vertical Movement Monitoring in Six-Storey Wood-Frame Building in British Columbia

Report

Wood-Frame Vertical Monitoring

This report measured vertical movement and wood moisture content from construction to service in a six-storey wood-frame residential building in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. The project’s major objective was to assess the impact of various factors on the building movement and to improve the prediction of vertical movement in future designs. The factors considered included construction materials and methods, wood moisture content, and load. Wood moisture content was measured on dimensional lumber including wall plates and studs using a hand-held capacitance-based meter during on-site visits at the framing stage.
